Mein neues Projekt, Sachsenwerk Olympia 59-3W

I have a question. The original transformer has 3 taps on the secondary side. I think it gos to C73. Where do I connect this wire?

Also, the original transformer is isolated from the chassis with paper. Is this needed?

Thank you,
Steve

Danke,
Steve

I took German in school 30 years ago. That is why I use a translator. Any advice on what to do with the wire to C73, see post 78.
Thank you,
Steve

Steve,
I think, this part of secondary winding, together with C73, works like a 9Kc- trap to reduce noise coming from carrier of neighboring AM channel.
I'd like to propose, let this terminal of C73 open and isolated.
The transformer is isolated from ground with paper? I never seen before this at such model of receiver. In accordance with schematic goes one tap of the secondary winding normally to ground.

Sorry Steve, nothing to do with you or your topic, that's why i don't translate.
But i'd translate for you if you got a longer text you're expecting Google having trouble with. Feel free to pm or simply post and ask for translation!
Gruß,
Uli

Danke Anton,
ganz meine Meinung.

The mounting bracket part of the transformer has paper isolating it from the core.
There is a piece of paper between the transformer and the chassis. So, it looks like the core is isolated.

I opened the old transformer. It looks like it is winding 1 that is open, not easy to get to.

I have to work, so I wont be able to get back to this until Sunday.
Thanks for the help,
Steve

Was denken Sie?
Steve

I have an Idea for the wire going to C73. I could just add a winding to the new transformer. It would be winding 2 of the old transformer. I can approximate the number of turns to make it like the old transformer.
What do you think?

Steve,
when it's easy for you to wind the wire around the core, do it.

Steve Beer

It works! Sounds great! Crisp clean sound on FM. AM is working, but I do not have an antenna connected. I left the wire to C73 disconnected.
I need to clean up the installation of the output transformer, and change the capacitors. Thank you for the help and parts.

Steve
Thank you.
I am working on changing capacitors. AM reception is not reliable, it goes away, then comes back. Looking for the problem.

Hi Steve,
for AM is a changing reception typical. It's called fading. It is typified by periodical fluctuations in field strength.
The cause are interferences between ground and space wave of radio transmission. Therefore, all AM superheterodyne receivers have a control path integrated.
The control signal comes from the detecting unit (tube diode or semiconductor). The IF- carrier wave produces a control voltage when rectified. It has negative polarity. This voltage is used for grid control of mixing tube.
If the AM fading is too large as you see it, please check the detecting tube and the capacitor of RC- timing unit. This RC unit eliminates remnants of IF carrier wave.

I would just like to add, that it's on the cards, deep modulation grade (up to 100%), used in the United States, may create unmeant oscillations of control device.

Scotty,
This is more of a switching off of all AM stations. Everything goes off, and then comes on, like an intermittent contact. I need to study the problem more.
I just stuffed one of the 50uf electrolytic capacitors(C80) , and I waiting for the glue to dry.
Thanks for the help,
Steve

Scotty,
Steve

I just put C80 back in. It is a problem in the selector switch. I had strong AM reception. Went to FM and back to AM. No AM reception anywhere on the dial.
I will have to look at the switch.
Steve

Ich habe nur C80 zurück in. Es ist ein Problem in der Wahlschalter. Ich hatte starke AM-Empfang. Ging zu UKW und zurück zu Uhr. Kein MW-Empfang überall auf dem Zifferblatt.
Ich muss am Schalter zu suchen.
Steve

Steve,
that's a lucid explanation. Look for bad contacts in the band- switch. I wish you good results!
